Welcome, Morton. Many congratulations on your latest book publication, Sunny Days At The Beach. We’d all love to know more about how you became a published author and when your passion for writing began.
Little did I know when I became a published author exactly what that would involve. I’ve wanted to write novels for as long as I can remember. I wrote my first novel when I was fourteen. I have included a photograph of the first page of this novel, The Sidanian. In case you are wondering the title is the name of the hero’s ship, a tall masted galleon! The hero of the novel was called Peter, but known as Sidan to his crew. This novel has an uncanny resemblance to the Errol Flynn films I used to watch with my Nan on Sunday afternoons.
Books have always been a part of my life. We went to the library as a family on Saturday mornings and I worked my way steadily through the children’s’ section. Of course, in my dreams I wanted to be George from the Famous Five, Anne of Green Gables, Lorna Doone, Elizabeth Bennett and so on. I’ve always had a vivid imagination and a strong romantic streak.
But, I’ve discovered that as a published writer it is all too easy to get lost in the other parts of being an author and to hardly get around to fresh blank page writing at all – if you are not careful. You check your rankings. You do numerous rounds of edits for your publisher before a book is released. There is all of the social media. I have a blog at www.mortonsgray.com/blog, where I try to publish something on every week without fail, usually to promote other authors. I’m also now the Hon. Secretary of the Romantic Novelists’ Associationand all of that doesn’t take into account being a busy wife, mother and looking after my elderly mother with dementia.
I have to treat myself every now and then to a new notebook and some time to just allow my mind to freewheel over new characters, a plot for them to live through and to reconnect and remember the joy of just writing. I think I’m due some of this writing time right now … hmm… maybe I should write about a ship’s captain… What do you think?

About the Author – Morton S Gray
Morton lives with her husband, two sons and Lily, the tiny white dog, in Worcestershire, U.K. She has been reading and writing fiction for as long as she can remember, penning her first attempt at a novel aged fourteen. She is a member of the Romantic Novelists’ Association and The Society of Authors.
Her debut novel The Girl on the Beachwas published after she won the Choc Lit Publishing Search for a Starcompetition in 2016. This story follows a woman with a troubled past as she tries to unravel the mystery surrounding her son’s new headteacher, Harry Dixon.
Morton’s second book for Choc Lit The Truth Lies Buriedis another romantic suspense novel, The story of Jenny Simpson and Carver Rodgers as they uncover secrets from their past.
Christmas at Borteen Bayis Morton’s first Christmas novella. It is set in her fictional seaside town of Borteen and follows the story of Pippa Freeman, who runs the Rose Court Guest House with her mother, and local policeman Ethan Gibson, as they unravel a family secret as Christmas approaches.
Morton previously worked in the electricity industry in committee services, staff development and training. She has a Business Studies degree and is a fully qualified Clinical Hypnotherapist and Reiki Master. She also has diplomas in Tuina acupressure massage and energy field therapy. She enjoys crafts, history and loves tracing family trees. Having a hunger for learning new things is a bonus for the research behind her books.
